Bookkeeping in Georgia

We keep the books and filings for companies and sole traders in Georgia. Registration is a one off event; reporting is a continuing obligation, and it is where problems usually start for those who registered and forgot.

What the work covers

• Setting the books up after registration: what your company in particular has to file and when.
• Monthly filings and tax calculation.
• Payroll and staff reporting, including foreign employees.
• The taxpayer's account: filing, reconciliation, answering queries.
• Reconstructing the books for earlier periods where filings were not made. Separate work, and the longer the gap the more it costs.

What is not included

• Audit as a separate regulated service.
• Tax planning in your country of residence. Obligations there remain and are calculated by its rules.
• The tax authority's decisions. We prepare the position and provide support, but assessments and their removal are within its competence.
• Keeping your primary documents for you if they are not passed on in time: the books are built on what you provide.

Why abandoned filings get more expensive

A company that is not trading does not stop being obliged to file. Missed filings become arrears, arrears become assessments, and assessments become claims against the company and, as regards liability, against the director.

Reconstructing the books always costs more than keeping them, and the gap grows with time. If the company is not needed, closing it is cheaper. We wrote about that separately.

Tax regimes

Georgia provides for different tax regimes, and which one suits depends on the activity, the turnover and whether there are employees. Rates, thresholds and conditions are set by law and get revised, so specific figures are given at a consultation, against the position on the day.

What matters more is this: a regime is not chosen once and for good. When turnover or the nature of the activity changes it is worth revisiting, and better in advance than after an assessment.

• The current tax regime, if one has been chosen.
• The state of the filings: what has been filed, whether there are assessments.
• Approximate volume of transactions per month and the main counterparties.
• Staff and employment contracts.
• The banks where accounts are held.
• Access to the taxpayer's account, or who currently has it.

How the work goes

1. You describe the task, through the form on the site, by email or in a messenger.
2. A lawyer goes through what you have, what still has to be obtained and where the tight spots are.
3. We agree the scope and the price. You pay nothing before that point.
4. We sign a contract in which the scope of the service is set out in writing.
5. You hand over the documents, we check the set and tell you what is missing.
6. We run the procedure and keep you informed at every step.
7. You receive the result and the full set of documents.

Prices

Ongoing bookkeeping is charged monthly, one-off work separately. Restoring records and audits depend on how many periods have to be closed. If you want to file your sole trader returns yourself, there is training: an online call of about 45 minutes, 400 GEL.

Consultation from $30. The price for your case is confirmed before the work starts and fixed in the contract.

What is outside our control

• The tax authority's decisions and how long it takes.
• How promptly you pass on primary documents. Both the filings and their cost depend directly on that.
• Changes in the law, including rates and regime thresholds.
