Frequently asked

Ask a questionHow much does a residence permit in Georgia cost?
Our fee ranges from 500 GEL for a renewal to 2000 GEL for IT residence and $1500 for investor and permanent residence; residence through a sole trader is 700 GEL, through property 600 GEL. State fees are paid separately and depend on the basis and the processing time.
Which route should I choose?
The one that matches your real situation: your own business, employment, property, investment, family or study. Choosing a basis because it needs fewer documents is a mistake: the authority looks at the substance.
Do I need a work permit for residence?
For a work residence permit, yes: since 1 March 2026 it is issued only to people who already hold the right to work, except in cases provided by law. The right to work is also needed if you work in Georgia on a residence permit of another kind; the exceptions are permanent and investor residence and a few other cases in the law.
Does property-based residence count towards permanent residence?
No. Periods on the short-term permit based on property, on a study permit and on a permit connected with medical treatment do not count.
Does a residence permit make me a tax resident?
No. A residence permit does not by itself make you a Georgian tax resident: residence for tax purposes is determined under tax law.
What if I am refused?
A refusal is appealed in court. The time limits are short and run from receipt of the decision, so keep the decision itself and the date it was served.
