Lawyer in Tbilisi: what we take on, how the work goes and what it costs

Updated 23 September 2026 English, Russian and Georgian Tbilisi, Mtkvari Street N 6

Kanon Georgia is a law firm in Tbilisi. Most of our clients are foreign nationals and foreign companies: they register a business in Georgia, apply for a work or residence permit, buy property or need someone to deal with a Georgian authority on their behalf. We work in English, Russian and Georgian.

This page sets out what we take on, how a matter runs, what it costs and how to start. Everything here is about our work, not about results we cannot promise: where a decision belongs to a state authority or a bank, we say so before the work begins rather than after a refusal.

What we take on

The full list with the scope of each service is on the services page.

How the work goes

The sequence is the same for a company registration, a residence permit application and a property deal; only the documents differ.

  1. You describe the case - through the form, by email or in a messenger.
  2. A lawyer reviews the input: what you already have, what has to be obtained, where the weak points are.
  3. We agree the scope and the fee. Up to this point you pay nothing.
  4. We sign an engagement in which the scope is set out in writing.
  5. You hand over the documents, we check the set and tell you what is missing.
  6. We run the procedure and keep you informed at every step.
  7. You receive the outcome and the full file of documents.

What it costs

Our fee and state fees are counted separately: state fees are set by the state and we do not mark them up. The price for your matter is confirmed before the work starts and fixed in the engagement.

Languages and documents

Documents for Georgian authorities are prepared in Georgian; we explain them to you in English or Russian. Where a document comes from another country, it usually needs an apostille or legalisation and a certified Georgian translation; we say which of your documents need it before you start collecting them.

Working from abroad

Many procedures can be run under a power of attorney, so you do not have to be in Georgia for every step. Some things still require you in person: a bank interview is the usual one. At the consultation we tell you which parts of your matter can be done remotely and which cannot.

What we do not promise

How to start

Describe your case and we will propose a plan: what we see in the documents, which risks matter and what the sequence of steps is.

Frequently asked

How much does a consultation cost?

A first legal consultation is $30 for up to 15 minutes; a consultation with our accountant is also $30. The price of a matter is confirmed before the work starts and fixed in the engagement.

Which languages do you work in?

English, Russian and Georgian. Documents for Georgian authorities are prepared in Georgian, and we explain them to you in your language.

Can you handle a matter while I am abroad?

Many procedures can be run under a power of attorney, and we tell you at the consultation whether yours can. Some steps, a bank interview in particular, may require you in person.

Do you guarantee that a residence permit will be granted?

No. The decision is made by the state authority, and no lawyer can promise it. We assess the ground before the work starts and say plainly if we think it is weak.

Are state fees included in your fee?

No. State fees and duties are paid separately, at the amounts set by the state, and we do not mark them up. The invoice shows our fee and state fees separately.

Do you work outside Tbilisi?

Yes. The office is in Tbilisi, and we also handle matters in Batumi. Most of the work is done with documents and can be run remotely.

About this page. It describes how we work and the general order of our services. It is not legal advice and not a public offer: the scope, the timing and the fee for a particular matter are agreed individually and recorded in the engagement. Fees, requirements and practice change, so anything here is checked against the position on the day you apply. Where the final decision rests with a state authority, a bank or a court, a positive outcome cannot be guaranteed.

Tell us what you need done in Georgia and where things stand now. We will reply with a plan, the scope and the fee.
